The Jacksonville Giants defeated the Heartland Racers, 122-64, on Sunday evening at South Florida State College. The Giants improve to 23-1 with the victory. The newest ABA Power Rankings will be posted early this week and the Giants hope to be back at #1 following the impressive performances.
“Great back to back road wins,” said head coach Jerry Williams. “We are playing great basketball at this time.”
Bernard Nugent led Jacksonville with 19 points. Nugent was complimented by the strong point guard play of reigning ABA MVP Maurice Mickens. Mickens scored 14 points in the win. The duo of Mickens and Nugent will be a key ingredient to the Giants winning another ABA Championship this season.
“It was a good team win,” said Nugent who also had a stiring defensive game with six steals.
Rodney Walker (14 points), Brent Williams (14 points) and team veteran Jermaine Bell (12 points) rounded out the scoring leaders for Jacksonville. The multiple personnel combinations helped catapult Jacksonville to a convincing lead.
