The reigning ABA Champions just keep moving forward. The Jacksonville Giants came away with a thrilling, 127-120, win over the Nassau pride. Nassau had their opportunities but the six time ABA Champs would not be denied.
Jacksonville was led by veteran Calvin Warner. Warner took over from the opening tip-off until the final buzzer. The physical ABA All Star scored a season high 32 points in the win. Warner had multiple slam dunks and even added a three pointer. Warner was just as impressive on the defensive side of the ball, as the powerful Center grabbed 11 rebounds and had five blocked shots.
With Warner leading the inside offensive scoring frenzy, the outside shooting came from some familiar faces. Team veteran Bernard Nugent added 18 points with guards Brenton Williams and Miguel Paul scoring 10 points each. Clarence Tillman scored 11 points with Ben Howze rounding out the top scorers with 13 points. The explosive outside shooting kept Jacksonville in a close lead. Jacksonville had a total of 10 successful three pointers as a team.
Nassau had opportunities and did make a good comeback in the second half. Nassau converted several long range shots to stay within striking distance. However, Jacksonvilles defense was able to force multiple turnovers late in the game, which confirmed the victory. Jacksonville continued to give their opponents fits with a defensive style that combined zone defense with a full court press. The multiple variations confused Nassau during the game.
